We are back with another pro bike build, this time a Cervelo R5 for current Tour de France Champion Jonas Vingegaard. The R5 was Vingegaard’s weapon of choice for all of the mountain stages in the 2022 race, and with the TDF stage plan looking similarly mountainous in 2023, it will likely be a pivotal bike for the deciding days in the saddle.
The Cervelo R5 is designed for all the glory and fanfare that comes with a summit and a finish on the descent below. A climbing bike that is light, aerodynamic and stiff, it shows that smooth handling, poise, and unmatched speed can come in one stealthy package.
Yeah, sounds like a bunch of marketing boohooey for sure, but the R5 is one serious machine, proven under the best rider at the biggest race of the year, so this actually is the kind of bullshit that will stick to your shoe...in a good way.
Check out our behind the scenes look as the Team Jumbo Visma mechanics build the R5 for Vingegaard.
